What You Need To Know |
On eleven occasions this week AlertsUSA subscribers were notified via SMS messages to their mobile devices regarding safety and security matters.
Most important for this report, four of these alerts dealt with preparations for and the response to civil unrest surrounding the fate of three officers involved in the shooting death of a black female while serving a warrant in Louisville, Kentucky. In that incident, three officers knocked on the door of the residence and announced their presence. The boyfriend of the female victim fired a handgun when police entered the dwelling, injuring one officer. As would be expected, the police officers returned fire and the female was killed in the exchange. The grand jury decided not to charge any of the officers in the death of the female.
On Monday, AlertsUSA subscribers were notified that the Louisville, KY police department had declared a state of emergency as the city braced for civil unrest. On Wed, Louisville 's Mayor, Greg Fischer, announced a curfew between 9 PM to 6:30 AM city wide for multiple days. 500 National Guard soldiers were deployed to the city, large portions of the downtown area were boarded up, and all city government offices were closed. Also on Wed, AlertsUSA subscribers were notified that 'Justice for Breonna' protests were scheduled in cities nationwide and that there were widespread calls for violence on social media.
As of the time of this report's preparation late Friday, the city of Louisville, KY remains at a heightened state of alert with protests and clashes expected to continue through the weekend. Local police forces are currently bolstered by state and federal agencies, and more than 1000 National Guard troops remain activated.
Similar to Louisville, anti-police, anti-Trump protests are expected to continue in other cities as well, including New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles and Seattle.
Readers are cautioned that few of these protests across the U.S. are organically forming on their own, but appear to be carefully coordinated events. Basic evidence to support this statement include published lists of protests times and locations, oddly coincidental similarities or identical designs in protest advertisements, as well as preprinted signage carried by protesters in demonstrations in distant cities.
As warned in last week's update, the death of Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Ruth Bader Ginsburg is akin to adding another log to the fire. President Trump is expected to formally announce his selection for her replacement on Saturday afternoon. Considering all that is on the line with the near certain confirmation of another conservative justice to the court, it is widely expected that protests and counter protests will be widespread, and violent.
AlertsUSA strongly encourages readers to maintain a high level of situational awareness when out and about in the coming days. It behooves you to monitor local news and learn about any planned demonstrations in your area. Invariably, organizers are promoting these events as peaceful gatherings, but it is pretty certain which direction things go once the sun sets.
AlertsUSA continues to monitor the domestic and international threat environment around the clock and will immediately notify service subscribers, via SMS messages to their mobile devices, of new alerts, warnings and advisories or any developments which signal a change the overall threat picture for American citizens as events warrant.

Coronavirus Update |
September 26, 2020 |
|
As of the time of this reports' preparation on Friday, there were more than 7,033,000 COVID-19 cases reported in the U.S., as well as 203,775 deaths attributed to the virus.
Despite the dramatic influence of politics on the pandemic response, as well as the botched effort of federal and state health authorities in testing and accurate case counting, the two-step and mixed messaging on use of masks, the highly flawed rule-making hampering the use of hydroxychloroquine in the early treatment of those infected with COVID-19 and so much more, AlertsUSA encourages readers to remain conscious of the need to be cautious, not only out of concern for your own well being, but also that of others. There actually is a virus, is still in circulation globally, it is still hospitalizing people globally, and it is still taking lives globally.

What You Need To Know |
On Friday, AlertsUSA subscribers were notified of an apparent terror attack in Paris after a man wielding a meat cleaver seriously injured two people outside the former offices of the French satirical publication Charlie Hebdo. The attack comes three weeks into the trial over the 2015 massacre at the magazine. French media report the prime suspect is an 18-year old from Pakistan. A second suspect was also arrested later in the day.
An additional five others were later detained during the search of property north of Paris believed to be the home of the main suspect.
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said it was "clearly an act of Islamist terrorism". He said police had underestimated the threat level in the area.
The U.S. Embassy in Paris issued a security alert to American citizens urging increase security awareness.
Readers are reminded that Charlie Hebdo is a satirical newspaper that features cartoons, reports, polemics and jokes. The publication is strongly secularist and publishes articles that mock Catholicism, Judaism, Islam and various other groups. The magazine frequently published illustrations, cartoons and nude caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad, whose depiction is forbidden in most interpretations of Islam.
Just two weeks ago, AlertsUSA subscribers were notified of new threats from Al Qaeda against France and the magazine following the republication of many of the Muhammad images. |
